Michael Kaye focuses on migrant rights from an international context through trafficking. Migrant employees constitute the majority of those trafficked for exploitation in labour, services and begging. To safeguard workers, Kaye calls for policies that target and punish malicious recruiting agencies and parties who recruit workers into illegal and harmful employment. The nexus overviews the situation of international trafficking, and acknowledges that management is especially difficult because NGOs and governments lack proper measures to protect and assist migrants. Second, Kaye outlines policies to better facilitate safer migration through a larger ‘nexus' strategy that caters to the increasing international demand for migrants in developed countries. The nexus concludes that ratification of the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Their Families, 1990 Convention, coupled with ‘recognizing and respecting the labour and human rights of all migrant workers' is necessary. To realize this in practice, a migration framework system that is ‘transparent' and ‘standards-based' must be laid out for the benefit of both migrants, and sending and receiving provinces.

In this 2005 report, Mike Dottridge covers eight different forms of exploitation, factors contributing to trafficking types of trafficking parties, and the short and long term effects of exploitative labour resulting from trafficking. The paper considers the actions necessary to preventing labour trafficking of children. Dottridge highlights both ‘good and bad' non-governmental organisations' (NGOs) measures for preventing trafficking and assisting victims. It finishes with 14 recommendations for government and NGO actors to remedy future issues in the global community.
